My History with Reading

For as long as I can remember I´ve always loved reading. As hard as my parents tried to cultivate readers amongst me and my two younger brothers, I was the only one who genuinely enjoyed it. In fact, my younger brother once had dreams of being a lawyer until he found out how much reading and writing was required. 😂
As for me, I read to everyone and everything. I remember the first book I read alone was Hop on Pop courtesy of Dr. Seuss. When my brothers did not want to listen to me read I would gather my stuffed animals and line them up all while pretending to play librarian or teacher. (I even heald the book the right way so ¨the children¨ could see the pictures.) When I was in 3rd grade my teacher, Mrs. Warmelink, read aloud Matilda using different voices for each character and I thought to myself ¨I want to be a teacher when I grow up so I can do read books and use different voices. (Fast forward 20 years and my dream became a reality, although I teach math and alas I missed out on doing read alouds.)
As I grew older, so did my love for books. If you ask my parents they´ll probably talk about my ¨dark¨ period. This is when I was in middle school/early high school and was fascinated with diary books about teenage pregnancy, eating disorders, or books about teens with cancer or illness. What can I say? I like stories with perseverance. Fast forward 10ish years and I remember buying Kindle fires for me and my husband when they were first released.
Speaking of my husband, I am lucky enough to have married a reader. However, our taste in books are VERY different. Him: Hemingway, classics, and nonfiction\\. Me: young adult, dystopian, fantasy, and the occasional romance story. I always tell my husband my love for young adult ties to my job. I love to read the books my students are so we can discuss and talk about them. (Hey, just because I cannot read aloud to them does not mean I cannot talk about books with them.) Some of my students are shocked to discover that their math teacher loves books and reading.
Fortunately, the shared love of reading that my husband and I share has been passed down to both our boys. I cannot wait until they are old enough to read Harry Potter, but until then we will continue to read Dog Man, Captain Underpants, and the My Weird School series, and nonfiction books to my oldest and Dr. Seuss, the Berenstain Bears, and Sesame Street to my youngest.
Over the course of the summer, I have discovered that I have a love for reading and reviewing books. I have read numerous ARCs thanks to NetGalley and have a large stack of books I have yet to review. Over the course of the past two months, I have managed to read 25 books. My plan for this blog is to provide you with reviews for upcoming books along with others that I find in the library or have been on my TBR list for some time. I hope you are as excited as I am! They have been told their mother died and their dad disappeared after dropping off the twins with their Oma. Cam thinks there must be more to the story, surely their dad would not abandon them- would he?     The answer to the question presents itself in the form of a mysterious door which leads to The Hotel Between. While Cam is not initially welcomed he eventually gains access- thanks to his new friend and hotel worker, Nico. This hotel is unlike anything Cam has seen before. It has the capabilities to transport you around the world, it has statues that are more than just statues and an abundance of questions and mysteries that are waiting to be discovered. Cam knows the Hotel has the answers he is looking for, but how hard will it be to find answers he is looking for? And will they be what he expected?   While I liked this book, I was

Playing with Matches

Title: Playing with Matches Author: Hannah Orenstein Rating: 4/5 Stars   Sasha´s life would make others envious. A job as a matchmaker and she has a successful, handsome boyfriend admits New York, which is easier said than done and why people flock to matchmakers and dating apps. Being a matchmaker means Sasha is constantly trolling Tinder, coaching clients through dates and heartbreak, giving dating advise when she barely has any to give, and helping others find their One and the happy ending that goes with it. Sasha´s job only has one rule: no dating the clients; which should not be an issue because Sasha has Johnathan- until she doesn´t. Soon the only rule at work becomes harder to follow. Is Sasha willing to risk everything for her own happy ending?   I was initially drawn to this book because of the cover and title. Plus, the idea of reading about a matchmaker sounded highly entertaining. Throughout the book, I felt a roller coaster of emotions. I felt everything from laugh

After losing her family, Caledonia becomes a captain of her own ship, Mors Navis. Not only is this ship unique because of its captain, but also because it is an all girl ship. Caledonia and her crew all share a common vision: to destroy the men who have brought nothing but sorrow and pain to their world, Aric and his fleet. The girls’ worlds are turned upside down after a nearly fatal accident which lends itself to a boy coming aboard. Could he have the answers necessary to take down Aric and his fleet, or is he looking to take down the girls of the Mors Navis?   I was hoping to like this book more than I did. To be honest I wasn’t sure if I was going to bother reading it, but I saw all the hype for the book and it had me curious. Overall, I enjoyed getting to know Caledonia and her crew throughout the story and often thought they w
